a student-founded and run group that organizes the weekly Jumu'ah (Friday prayer service) for the Muslim community at the university.

My journey with Jumu'ah's visual identity evolved over two years. In my first year, I maintained design continuity by working with the established typography from previous materials, while streamlining our color palette to five core colors. The second year marked a strategic shift when, collaborating with a new graphic designer, we undertook a comprehensive rebrand. This refresh aligned our typography and color system with the logo design, establishing a more cohesive and robust brand framework.

As the designer for Jumu'ah at Rutgers, I created the merchandise to reflect the deep significance of this weekly gathering for the Muslim community. When the event location changed, some raised concerns. However, the new space's floor-to ceiling windows offered a beautiful view of the changing seasons - a visual metaphor for the enduring tradition of Jumu'ah.
I centered the design around a refined, arched motif inspired by the Jumu'ah logo. Within this frame, I incorporated prayer mats and the evolving outdoor scenery, symbolizing how Jumu'ah remains a constant amid the academic calendar. To unify the branding, I primarily used the Jumu'ah colors of red and gold, tying the elements together with a decorative ribbon. The final merchandise design captured the reverence, resilience, and renewal that Jumu'ah represents for the Rutgers Muslim community.

To promote the Jumu'ah merchandise, I crafted an engaging Instagram carousel. The cover image showcased the full product lineup, while subsequent slides highlighted each individual item - hoodie, beanie, tote bag - with their respective prices. Maintaining visual cohesion, I carried over the paper-cut aesthetic, incorporating ethereal cloud, star, and moon motifs in a color palette drawn from the Jumu'ah brand. This layered, textural approach added visual interest and depth to the product presentation.
To further extend the campaign, I designed a simplified post to advertise the merchandise pickup date. Aligning with the overall branding, this post reused the same whimsical design elements. Finally, I repurposed the original carousel cover as an Instagram story, providing an additional touchpoint to promote the upcoming pickup event.

For the annual "Gathering of the Hearts" event, I created an Instagram post with a serene paper-cut illustration in Jumu'ah's gold and white brand colors. The central mosque silhouette amid clouds evoked a sense of spirituality and community, complementing the event's theme. The Jumu'ah branding fonts seamlessly integrated with the abstract, artful background, creating a visually striking post that captured the spirit of this treasured yearly tradition that brought the community together.

"Reviving the Sunnah" was both an ongoing Instagram series and an annual event, aimed at highlighting the profound teachings and practices of the Prophet Muhammad. For the weekly social media series, I maintained a consistent visual style that had been established in previous years. Unfortunately, due to various factors, the series was not posted as consistently as in the past. When it came time to promote the annual "Reviving the Sunnah" event, I sought to create a cohesive connection between the Instagram campaign and this in-person gathering. Leveraging design elements from the series, I incorporated the same branded font while also featuring a paper-cut illustration of praying hands - a symbolic representation of the event's purpose to remind attendees of the importance of following the Prophet's authentic Sunnah. The resulting Instagram post seamlessly blended the familiar aesthetic of the series with fresh, evocative imagery to drive awareness and excitement for this meaningful annual event.

"Bring A Friend to Jumu'ah" was an inclusive outreach initiative designed to introduce non-Muslims to the Friday prayer experience. This unique event required a comprehensive marketing strategy to reach beyond our typical Muslim audience. I developed a versatile design system that adapted across multiple platforms: Instagram posts, Facebook content, and digital displays in campus student centers. The campaign included detailed Instagram stories addressing frequently asked questions, making the event more approachable for those unfamiliar with Islamic practices. The digital display advertisements presented a particular challenge, requiring a self-contained design that could communicate the event's purpose without captions or additional context. I carefully balanced essential information with visual appeal, considering the brief viewing window of passing students. This responsive, multi-platform approach proved successful, drawing significant attendance from both Muslim and non Muslim students, ultimately achieving our goal of fostering understanding and community connection.

For the spring semester's "Bring A Friend to Jumu'ah," I evolved our marketing strategy with a new responsive design approach. Building on insights from our previous campaign, I created physical flyers for campus-wide distribution, expanding our reach to non-Muslim students. The campaign spanned multiple platforms, including Instagram and Facebook posts to engage our digital audience. I refined the digital display advertisements by streamlining the text content based on our learnings about viewing duration from the previous semester. All marketing materials—flyers, social media posts, and digital displays required careful consideration of content density enough information to convey the event's purpose while maintaining visual clarity and quick readability. This optimized marketing approach, combining both digital and print media, successfully enhanced event attendance and community engagement.

To support students' Friday prayer needs, Rutgers Jumu'ah provided an on campus prayer space while also encouraging attendance at local masjids, particularly when campus prayer services weren't available. To facilitate this connection between campus and community, I designed an Instagram story featuring prayer times for nearby mosques. I created three variations of the design, each utilizing different colors from our brand palette. These stories were posted weekly with updated prayer times, rotating through the different designs to maintain visual interest. The layout incorporated architectural elements inspired by the Jumu'ah logo—featuring an elegant arch and traditional Islamic patterns as a decorative border framing the essential timing information. This weekly resource helped students stay informed about their prayer options while maintaining a consistent and visually cohesive brand presence across our social media.

For the second annual "Gathering of the Hearts" event, I designed an Instagram post that creatively interpreted the event's theme through layered visual elements. The background featured a repeating heart pattern, overlaid with three heart shapes arranged like petals in a paper-cut style. I created depth through a gradient of colors—from darkest at the base to white at the top—enhanced by subtle shadows for dimensional contrast. The typography required thoughtful arrangement to maintain both hierarchy and readability. I adapted the Jumu'ah logo into a horizontal layout reading "Rutgers Jumu'ah presents," while emphasizing key words from the title through scale. Additional event details were elegantly curved around the main title to maximize space efficiency. Strategic color alternation in the text prevented visual monotony while maintaining brand consistency.

I crafted an Instagram post promoting team applications using our new brand colors and fonts. The design featured a prayer mat pattern as the background, overlaid with off white shapes to house the text. I emphasized the application deadline through prominent size and placement, ensuring viewers would immediately notice this crucial information.

I designed an Instagram post to announce a venue change for Rutgers Jumu'ah prayer. The design featured an illustration of the tent against ground and clouds. To manage the hierarchy of information, I employed dynamic typography - scaling key words larger while reducing less critical text for clear communication. The design maintained brand consistency by incorporating our established color palette and typefaces.

Amidst the Palestine genocide and campus unrest, we decided to put out a statement of solidarity. The design incorporated traditional Palestinian motifs, featuring tatreez embroidery patterns on the cover and olive branch imagery in subsequent slides. While maintaining our brand's visual identity through colors and typography, I adjusted the white tones to complement the cultural elements. The final design balanced cultural authenticity with a clear message of support, providing valuable community resources.
